Phil is one of those pioneer sorts that comes along once in a while, passionate about his cause, abounding with energy and committed to making things happen. Phil founded the award-winning Better Food Company in 1992. He has been living, working and breathing organic food from the age of 14 when he first became a member of the Soil Association. He started his career in 1974 farming organically in a community in Scotland before moving to Bristol in 1981 and working at Windmill Hill City Farm for several years, where he worked with kids and adults teaching them about food and farming. He now has vast experience spanning over 45 years in farming, growing, retailing, wholesaling and delivering organic food, community building and is always looking for new ways of spreading the organic word and building a better, more sustainable world.
Phil along with several others founded The Community Farm. It was borne out of The Better Food Company. It’s a project to enable people from all walks of life to connect with where their food comes from and the importance of organic farming in protecting our wild life habitats.
Phil has moved from being being MD of Better Food to founder and less hands on, leaving room to offer support and mentoring to others in the field of food, community and business.
