Many people in recovery cite nature as a nurturing, restorative factor in their recovery process. What is it that we’re experiencing when we feel restored by nature? What does this balming effect have to do with our addictive processes? Are our increasingly urban and technologically-oriented lives affecting our capacity to feel our place in the evolutionary order of things, and how might this impact our choices and patterns as individuals and societies?
This workshop will explore the healing potential of nature in addiction recovery. Sharing a combination of personal anecdotes, clinical theory and experience Integrative counsellor Freddy Weaver will offer insights and an embodied exercise to take us deeper into our own relationships with the natural world and ourselves. Whether working with a chemical addiction or more subtle patterns of avoidance everyone is welcome. Those interested are encouraged to bring a journal, a curiosity towards the ‘more-than-human’ world and a willingness to share their experience – or not, as they prefer (sharing is fully optional!).
